I had the pleasure and fun of hearing Kerwin speak at the July 4th 1973 WesterCon, at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. His hair had lightened to a medium gray but otherwise he was gorgeous as ever. And a very nice man, indeed. He told of being a former kindergarten teacher, which made him object to appearing live in the lobby after showings of 7th Voyage of Sinbad. He rightly felt that kids wouldn't be able to handle it, seeing a movie character in costume in the flesh, off the screen! Was he ever correct - they panicked! That gambit was cancelled after the first appearance. He had stories of working in SINBAD at Spain's Barcelona harbor with a fever and high temperature. As he said, Montezuma as we know, has his revenge... The Fire trucks were there to pump sea water up at the boat as he was manning the wheel, trying to shout out the dialog while keeping dead rats out of his mouth! What a horrible night-shot. There's more, and thank goodness for my ability to recall it... I also took pics. SHould I start an "Attending Movie and Sfi-Fi and Horror Conventions" blog?
